APO / IBP — Advanced Planning

MRP says what is missing, not how best to obtain it. Advanced planning adds statistical forecasting, the network view (plants, warehouses, transportation), optimization under capacity and cost constraints, detailed scheduling and a reliable promise. SAP APO did this for twenty years; SAP IBP and S/4HANA are taking over.

Audience
Demand and supply planners, supply chain consultants, PP / MM consultants moving into advanced planning, APO migration teams.
Prerequisites
Level 1: none. Levels 2 and 3: PP (MRP, orders) and MM; notions of forecasting and inventory.
